Ketchikan Salmon Fishing

Ketchikan is famous for it's world class salmon fishery.  In fact, the salmon fishing is so good, Ketchikan was given the title as the "Salmon Capitol of the World".  The salmon fishing season in Ketchikan, begins in May and runs through the end of September.  During this time, Ketchikan's waters come to life as all five species of Alaska's Pacific salmon migrate to our local fishing grounds. Anglers are provided with an abundance of fishing opportunities, comparable to no other place on earth.  Thanks to the preservation of our wild Alaska salmon runs and thriving fish hatcheries, Ketchikan salmon fishing is stronger than ever.

Catching and landing a king salmon can be the pinnacle achievement for any Alaskan fisherman. The biggest of the salmon species, the king salmon can reach weights of 30, 40, even 50 lbs or bigger. This makes them very formidable adversaries. When a king salmon strikes the end of your line and doesn't stop running with it, your first thought is that you have snagged a whale. These brawny king salmon are pure guts and bravado and have a way of bending your fishing pole at impossible angles in a desperate attempt to get free. Knowing where to go and the techniques to catch king salmon is what we do best and we are always up to the task. While king salmon can be caught year round in Ketchikan, the most productive months to fish for them is May through July.

Join us for the 65th annual King Salmon Derby. Being held Memorial weekend as well as June 2nd, 3rd, June 9th and 10th. Many cash prizes and 1st place takes home $10,000!

Alaska Silver Salmon

Ketchikan, Alaska fishing

Silver salmon, also known as cohos, have a reputation for being aggressive and often times reckless, striking at baits even when not hungry and easily provoked by bright colors. When you get into a school of feeding silvers, multiple hookups are common, providing for some of the most excitement Alaska sport fishing has to offer. The average silver salmon weighs between 8 to 10 lbs, but can reach weights of 20 lbs or more. Typically caught in shallower depths, than king salmon, silvers often head right for the ocean's surface where they put on a display of acrobatic leaps and maneuvers. The best time to fish for silver salmon in Ketchikan, is July through September.

We had the highlight of our 10 days in Alaska with Josh and Salty Sea Charters. Their family treated our family to the "best ever" fishing excursion. They should be a mandatory stop for any angler going to Ketchikan.          J.D. Cunningham Hasbrouck, NC
